xG Technology Lauds FCC Chairman Genachowski’s Remarks on Unlicensed Spectrum

By Florida Technology Journal Staff Report.

SARASOTA - xG Technology, Inc., the developer of smart radio technology that improves utilization of the nation’s airwaves, announced today that it fully supports remarks made by FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski regarding the importance of unlicensed spectrum.

Speaking recently at the New America Foundation in Washington, D.C., Chairman Genachowski said that more spectrum would be needed to accommodate exploding mobile data demand. He also reiterated the importance of unlicensed spectrum and remarked that it would play a key role in stimulating innovation. xG’s xMax mobile VoIP and broadband technology, which recently received an Internet Telephony Magazine 2009 Product of the Year Award, represents an example of such innovation.

xMax is the product of xG Technology's extensive R&D activity, a $100 million international effort that involves companies in the U.S., Europe and Asia. xG's impressive patent portfolio, which includes over 50 U.S. and more than 100 international patents and pending patent applications, has been developed with the goal of bringing lower-cost communications to consumers.

“Unlicensed spectrum is a wellspring for innovation and private sector investment,” said Chris Whiteley, Director of Business Development for xG Technology. “We are encouraged by Chairman Genachowski’s acknowledgement of the important role that unlicensed spectrum plays in spurring such investment and fostering competition.”

xMax networks can be deployed at significantly lower cost than existing wireless technologies, which opens the door to new competition, enhanced service options, and lower prices for consumers. An example of these cost savings was shown in a white paper that xG released earlier this week. It found that xMax can provide a significantly higher level of profitability than WiMax for network operators.

Accredited journalists, published telecom analysts, and prospective partners are invited to experience this new technology for themselves. xG has deployed a pilot xMax mobile VoIP network in the Ft. Lauderdale, Florida area where individuals can experience the excellent call quality of the xMax platform at highway speeds.
