UF President to Stay, Won't Retire

GAINESVILLE - UF President Bernie Machen is staying in Gainesville at the request of Gov. Rick Scott and UF Board of Trustees Chair David Brown.

“President Machen has earned a reputation for visionary thinking and has a record as a change agent," Scott said in a news release published Tuesday afternoon. "I have asked him to continue his service as president, and I look forward to working with him, the Board of Governors and the Board of Trustees on this effort to realize a new vision for higher education in Florida.”

JACKSONVILLE - Forbes Magazine's research says Jacksonville has the second-fastest growing tech services base in the country. The survey, contained in an article titled The Cities Winning the Battle for America's Biggest Growth Sector, ranks only Austin with more growth than Jacksonville. Jacksonville ranks ahead of tech hubs San Francisco and Raleigh.

Feathr Pivots from Digital Business Card App to Conference Connection Solution

Feathr, a Gainesville-based startup that launched last year as a digital business card sharing application has made a shift toward using its platform for conference organizers.

The latest version of the Feathr allows conference or event organizers to use the platform to display critical event information, such as agenda, speakers, exhibitor and attendee information in a interactive format. The app features attendee profiles with social media integration, push notifications for important event information, and display advertising for conference sponsors.

Jacksonville's One Spark Crowdfunding Festival to Showcase Ideas for Funding

Elton Rivas, co-founder and executive director talks about One Spark, a first of its kind crowdfunding festival to be hosted on April 17-21 in Jacksonville.

One Spark plans to bring together hundreds of artists, entrepreneurs, and innovators who will display projects in a 1.5 mile radius, multi-venue gallery in downtown Jacksonville. Projects showcased can include just about anything that needs funding - technology, music, science, film, community initiatives.

Mindtree to hire 400 at New Gainesville Center

GAINESVILLE - Mindtree, a global IT solutions company recently opened their first U.S. delivery center in Gainesville - near the campus of the University of Florida, and across from the new UF Innovation Hub.  The center is the first for the company in the United States and will focus on software consulting and consumer-facing application development for Mindtree's U.S. clients.
